So I’ve been busy.

So I’ve been busy- busier than my blogs and feeds show, since it’s been hard to find something that plays well with Facebook. HOPEFULLY THIS POST WILL GET POSTED ON FACEBOOK. I swear, if this plug-in doesn’t work I’m going to give up, as I like posting to Facebook, but I like doing so in a way where Facebook doesn’t get its lovely tentacles into every place I frequent. I do love to share, but I share different things on different places! For instance, my tumblr blog is more my spot for nerdiness.

The last picture is a piece I did for a Final Fantasy collaboration wherein various artists chose a character from the Final Fantasy video game series. Considering that series spans over, uh, well over 15 games if you include the off-shoots, there’s a lot of characters to consider. Not bad for a series that’s been around since 1987!

So. The character I chose was Leo Cristophe of Final Fantasy 6, one of my favorite games in the series. He’s not as major a character as some, but he symbolized the idea that the Empire (ie, the big bad) had some people inside it who could change it for the better. Of course, when he died, that sort of started the big long slide towards the second half of the game, where things hit rock bottom and the cast has to start from ground zero and work their way up.

Leo’s also rather famous for being one of the characters that spawned various urban legends on how a player could attain place him back in their party.

Nature loves you.

Alternately, it hates you

I introduce this lovely little specimen that I found dead on the ground while gardening.

I introduce to you the Dobsonfly, or as I like to call it, THE CTHULHUFLY.

THIS BUGGER WAS AS LONG AS THE PALM OF MY HAND. THESE THINGS COME OUT WHEN YOU SLEEP

In short, don’t mess with Mother Nature.

Music I listen to (Part 1): Nier

Like a lot of people I know, I’m attached to my mp3 player (currently, an Itouch). I’m constantly listening to podcasts (which is another post), as well as music.

As I love video games, a lot of music I listen to comes from games I’ve played. Since some who follow me may be unfamiliar with just how great this genre canĀ  be, I’ll highlight some of them here from time to time.

Nier

This is a game I’ve played recently, and the story, characters, and music really captivated me. You play a father, named Nier, in a slowly dying world plagued by shadowy creatures called ‘shades’, that is trying to save his daughter Yonah from a disease called the Black Scrawl. When Nier gains an incredibly egocentric talking magical book, he gains the possibility of not only saving his daughter, but the world. Eventually joined by a meek child with magical powers and a foul-mouthed warrior (warning: language), they seek out to accomplish this. Then, when you play the game again, you learn some rather horrifying truths that throw everything into perspective.

It, uh, also has a great soundtrack. Only the final song is sung in actual languages; the rest is in made-up languages.

I’ll be filling this blog with more as I go on; I figured out that I should maybe introduce a little more about my tastes and likes than just art.

Projects I’ve been working on!

I was ill since about the last week of June, and only since last week have I been well enough to work on the various projects I had going.

First off was my piece for the Art Sanctuary‘s annual “Variations on a Theme” contest. Here is an edited copy:

An unedited copy was uploaded here, and you can visit the DA page for it here. Much love is given to the people who freely offered their photos up as stock. I’m hoping to do a tutorial here about how to work with table salt and watercolor- I didn’t have any kosher salt on me, so it was… a different experience.

Next are the photo shoot panels for the local fair! The angle I took the photo at skews them a bit, but thank god they’re finally done! The unpainted places are where the hole is going to be, so people can put their faces in. That’s also why the heads are strangely shaped. I later put on text, but didn’t get a chance to take pictures of that stage.

Here’s some progress shots.

I’m thankfully doing a lot better now, and I count my blessings in that I rarely *do* get sick, not counting, say, allergies. However, when I do get sick, it’s often something stubborn.

I’m still getting used to WordPress (if this is Tumblr where you’re reading this, HI), as well. I still haven’t figured out a way to place links on the side so I can give shoutouts to great people, and I desperately miss the theme I had on my Posterous website. Unfortunately, a WordPress version of that theme has never been made, and the creators have no plans to do so. I’m hoping that I eventually find the perfect theme; so far, it’s just been ‘this’ll do, for now‘.

New(ish) Products on my Etsy page!

Just in time for spring- flower prints!

I bought a sample pack of paper from Twisted Limb Paperworks from a shop in Bloomington last Christmas, after falling in love with the quality and uniqueness of each piece. As an experiment, I glued some prints of my flowers on them, making them sort of floating frames for my watercolor prints. They turned out so well that I’m now selling them on Etsy! I wanted to link to the company in my description, but it was against Etsy’s rules to link other websites in descriptions, so the shout-out will have to be here instead.

The first pictures I took weren’t as good as I liked, so I just updated them using some good ol’ photoshop elbow grease magic. Maybe later I’ll do a tutorial so that other people can use photoshop to enhance their own Etsy paper products.

WordPress has been behaving thus far, except I can’t find a plug-in yet that wants to play with my super secret livejournal account. The main annoying thing is all the spam comments! I have to keep logging in to moderate them- if you comment on here and I accidentally mark you as spam, I apologize!

This will also be my first real post using the repost system I have set up, so expect some bugginess until I figure out what I’m doing.

Just got a Daily Deviation from Deviantart!

Just got my second daily deviation via Deviantart today! For those unfamiliar with Deviantart, every day they pick several pictures (called deviations) in different categories to showcase. To get chosen is a great event! It’ll take me a while to sort through all the comments and look at everyone’s galleries; there’s so much talent on this site that it can be such an inspiration!
